How to choose a sign company in the UK – what to look for

Choosing the right sign company is not just about price. The difference between a good supplier and a poor one shows up in the finished product, the installation and what happens when something goes wrong.
Do they produce in-house or outsource?
In-house production means faster turnaround, better quality control and a single point of contact. Outsourced production adds time, cost and an extra layer of communication where things can go wrong. Ask directly whether they print and cut on their own equipment.
Can they show you previous work?
Any established sign company should have a portfolio of completed jobs. Look for variety – different materials, different applications, different clients. If the portfolio only shows vehicle wraps or only shows one type of sign, their capability may be limited. Real photos of real jobs matter more than rendered mockups.

Do they offer supply only or installation too?
Some businesses need supply only – they have their own fitters or the job is simple enough to self-install. Others need a full service from survey through to installation. Make sure the company you choose offers what you actually need. A supplier who only does one or the other will either charge you for a service you do not need or leave you to find an installer separately.
How do they handle artwork and design?
Find out upfront whether design is included in the quote or charged separately. Some sign companies are production only and expect print-ready artwork. Others offer full design from a brief. Neither is wrong but you need to know which you are dealing with before you commit.
What is their turnaround time?
Standard turnaround for most sign work is five to ten working days from artwork approval. Rush jobs are possible but usually attract a premium. Be wary of companies that promise very fast turnaround without qualification – speed that compromises quality is not worth it. Ask what their current lead time is before you order.

Are they easy to communicate with?
This sounds obvious but it matters. A sign company that takes days to respond to a quote request will take days to respond when something needs fixing. Test their responsiveness before you commit to a project. A prompt clear quote is a good sign of how the whole job will be handled.
