How to choose signage for a new business
Getting your signage right from the start sets the tone for everything that follows. The wrong sign — too small wrong material wrong position — undermines the brand before a single customer has walked through the door. Here is how to approach it.

Start with where people will see you from
Before choosing a sign type think about viewing distance and angle. A fascia sign (link) above a ground floor shopfront is read from across the street and from up to 30 metres away. A window graphic (link) is read from the pavement two or three metres away. Each has different requirements for size contrast and legibility. Brief your sign company on where your customers will be standing when they first see your business — that determines everything else.

Match the sign to the building and the brand
A sign that looks right in isolation can look wrong on the building. The scale the fixings the colour against the brickwork — all of these matter. Send your sign company a photo of the premises before asking for a quote. A good supplier will look at the building the street context and your brand and come back with options that work for both. Do not just specify what you want — describe what you are trying to achieve and let the expertise inform the solution.
Think about the full package not just the main sign
Most businesses need more than one sign. The fascia above the door window graphics carrying opening hours and services a door panel with contact details possibly an A-board (link) on the pavement. Each element reinforces the others. A complete shopfront package designed as a system looks more considered than individual signs sourced separately.
Plan for longevity not just launch day
The cheapest option at the start often costs more over time. A sign that fades warps or needs replacing within two years is not a saving — it is a cost that comes at the worst time. Ask your supplier how long the sign is expected to last what maintenance it needs and what the replacement process looks like. A reputable sign company will answer these questions directly.
